Our home is for rent

Our Douglas Park home in Vancouver is for rent. The house is relatively new (8 years old) and in a fantastic location. It is close to amenities, the new Canada Line skytrain route and other good bus transportation. It affords a fantastic lifestyle. UBC is a 30 minute trip on the 33 bus (door to door). We are within walking distance to all major amenities except for a drugstore but one is opening in the next few weeks.

We are one block away from Douglas and Heather parks and across the street from an elementary school with its own park.

This home is perfect for a young family! We have a car but hardly ever use it as we can walk everywhere. Douglas Park houses a fantastic community centre, a playground and much green space. The neighbourhood has a lot of character and is centrally located.

House details

We purchased our home just two years ago. The house is eight years old and has three floors. The basement is rented out to quiet, conscientious folks with whom we get along well.

The remaining top two floors are each 800 square feet. The main floor is open plan with living room, dining room, guest bathroom, den and kitchen.

The main floor has hardwood throughout except for the kitchen, which is tiled. There is a gas fireplace in the living room. The house is on the northwest corner and gets a fantastic golden evening glow when it is sunny. A picture window at the front (facing south) is a wonderful place to relax, read and enjoy the fireplace while watching the world go by.

The kitchen has granite counter tops, gas stove, brand new dishwasher, and fridge with icemaker (we didn't think we would use it but we love the icemaker). The house is heated throughout by radiant under the floor heating.

The top floor has three bedrooms, a hall area and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a balcony with a view of the mountains. Both the master bedroom and the front bedroom have lofted ceilings which give the rooms a very bright and airy feel. The front bedroom also has a great view towards Queen Elizabeth park and has hardwood floors. The remaining bedrooms and hallway are carpeted.

The landscaped fenced in backyard is the perfect place for backyard barbecues or for kids to play. There is a single car garage at the back. Of course, since we are one block away from Douglas Park, Heather Park and across the street from Edith Cavell elementary school outdoor play options are many.

Rent details

We will be renting the top two floors (unfurnished) for $2800 per month plus utilities. We currently pay about $150 per month for heat/hotwater and electricity, but of course, that does depend on usage.

Cable, internet and security are not included. We currently have a monitored system by Provident that is $42 per month. We recommend keeping the system in place. It does save some money on insurance.

We will require a one year lease (which can be extended) with one full month's rent paid in advance as a deposit.

The house will be available for rent from October 15, 2009.

Master Bedroom and Bathroom

The master bedroom is large - it easily fits a king sized bed and its great sitting out on the balcony to drink your morning coffee.

Kitchen

The kitchen is just off the den - it's great for entertaining. Friends can sit at the bar and keep you company while cooking. There is a great view out the window of the yard that you can look on as you wash dishes.

Living Room

Same view with more light...

The fireplace

Den

The den is just off the kitchen and is where we tend to hang out. The cupboards are great to store stuff - we even keep our tv in there. The nook is also very handy. It is a short run from the kitchen to check a recipe or an email.
